My piece Self Portrait as a Teapot, attempts to use aspects of Julian Schnabel original piece Self Portrait as a Champagne Glass, in order to create a unique piece of video art. I tried to add aspects of the originals form such as the color scheme of my video, and adding an somewhat off putting texture to the focus of the work. Also i tried to mimic my expression to match the feel of the sculpture. Another theme I took from the piece of art is this idea recognizing an idea, even though the work of art does not necessarily resemble it. This was the inspiration to my title and the overall idea of my art. The title of our pieces are linked but the correlation between a teapot and a glass is weaker then our minds immediately recognize it as (hopefully). Same with the subject of the art, you recognize me as the teapot, but i am far from the iconic image of the teapot dance.
